Many thanks to the superbly capable, knowledgeable and personable Evalina Thurnherr, chief pharmacist at the 71 Bahnhofstrasse (8001) location of Victoria Apotheke. It seems Ms (or Dr?) Thernherr has an encyclopedic knowledge of medications and of OTC substances, as well as applicable laws and regulations (which came up when I mentioned my U.S. doctors can order some things but not others from abroad; she knew this subject area, too). It seems Swiss pharmacists are trained incredibly broadly and also with depth, and they appear like Ms Thurnherr to CHECK for confirmations of pre-existing knowledge, and updates…. she went to do this for me and/or another customer; that is impressive). One never knows about the latest information on a medicine unless one looks (and it’s been disclosed). Every aspect of pharmacy practice is taken very seriously here, but at the same time with appropriate good humor, and no condescension. That’s how I saw Ms Thurnherr interact with me; with other customers, and with her own staff. Her English language skills and time lived abroad facilitated her understanding what I was seeking to ask — ie for sunscreens (earlier this trip it had been antibiotics) for someone with high medication sensitivity— whether OTC or prescription medications, and even topical - not solely meds taken “by mouth” (or injected in hospital or a doctors office). I’m quite impressed by the Swiss medical system which seems to aim for the perfect middle (not over treating or under-treating). In the USA those are serious problems that do not enhance very many people’s health. One reason the USA’s NIH acknowledges the Swiss medical “system” as the world’s #1. Pharmacists are always a crucial part of any medical system. I expect Ms Thurnherr is extra special, with her people skills and life lived abroad adding to her basic skills as a Swiss-trained pharmacist. She’s a tremendous asset to this pharmacy and its ownership. I will always feel in safe hands if and when I need advice on medications and/or OTC products (which she educated me may be OTC in the USA, but are behind the counter in Switzerland, and I know enough about the examples she provided to see how wise the regulations are- - here). Super- impressed.
Quick and polite service. Were able to deliver my medication from my Doctor's prescription from Abroad. Will the Apotheke be open January first? Would like to come back again.
One of employee was rude when enter the pharmacy
I don’t recommend. Pharmacist could not provide any kind of advise; did not conclusively answered if they had a certain product or not, etc. They weren’t rude but were neither helpful nor inviting.
